University responsibility and Governement Rules

Universities should advise students and negotiate with companies since unpaid internships means the education provided has no value. Such negotiation would be beneficial to companies since universities have to provide quality students. Also, governments should implement minimum wages for internships in large companies.

Turn internships into short-term contract jobs

Sometimes during an internship students do exactly the same job as full-time employees (sometimes even more). The term “internship” should be banished and replaced with “short-term position”, because that’s what it really is, and what companies expect from interns. If we do this, then companies would have to provide short term contracts and all that goes with it : minimum wage, medical care…

Unpaid intern solution.

A company or organizations policies, cannot be controlled, if they are legal. The best solution is to get educational settings to provide onsite learning experiences available in lieu of interning, or partner with certain companies or organizations that would be incentivized through new tax law benefits, to hire interns and also compensate them.

Learning valuable skills

Interns should be provided compensation in the way of learning skills that are related to that given field that can only be learned through on the job training. Interns would have access to the same trainings as employees as well as have mentors. Interns should also be given assurance that when their apprenticeship is over, provided that they fulfilled requirement, they would be first in line for a position opportunity.

Taxes

Instead of putting taxes all into warfare, welfare and other things besides school, we should put it towards the future generation. The government and citizens should invest in helping the generation yet to come. All the money that goes into the lotteries can be put into paying interns.

Free is Too Cheap

Employ the “interns” as fixed contract employees for a specified amount of time. This allows the company to save money by not committing to a full time position and also allows the interns to be paid for their work. After that time has elapsed it is then at the companies discretion whether to hire them to a “real” position.

Employment Awareness to End Unpaid Work

Societies must be informed of their employment rights in order for labour law to evolve. Educating interns on such matters and making the internship process more transparent will discourage individuals from unpaid work. These efforts will teach employers and employees the importance of fair wages, will encourage global discussion, and will ultimately, help legislate internship rights globally.

tax credits for future use

Intern claims a non-refundable tax credit (NRTC) for the value of internship and carries it forward (benefit); similar idea as post-secondary tuition/books NRTC. Value: pre-established monthly/weekly amounts (total depends on length of internship) or, actual value of the work performed (hours x hourly rate); employers provide tax receipts. Benefits: employer – free labour; government – supporting learning with no direct cost

Investing in your Future

Companies should focus on interns for what they are: students. In most cases, interns are recent graduates or current students, often facing student debt. Internships should be a supplement for education as real world experience and provide funding for education as an investment program in the student’s future. These programs would need to be enacted by university and corporation partnerships.

Unionization

Students can work with their workers to create unions. These unions collectively can contract with the employers to ensure that both workers and entry level workers are given appropriate compensation, all while acquiring the same outcome. This will reduce wage stagnation among young workers while apart of a union mambership.

Empower young through education and awareness

By introducing the topic of predatory internship programs into earlier education, such as elementary, middle, and high schools, young people can become informed about this unfair system. This knowledge will allow them to make better informed decisions, and give them the confidence to refuse to be exploited. These young people will grow into business leaders who oppose these practices, and work to eliminate them.

Pay For Time, Not work

Unpaid internships should exist; you are there to learn, not get paid. On that note though, you should how ever be paid in the sense of a “compensation” payment. That way they are not paying you for your work, but more so paying you for your time. This way it is also not taxable.

Tax Credit Insentive

The tax credit incentive would allow interns to work for a company and receive tax credits as part of their employment as an intern. Companies could also receive tax credits if they employs interns who are paid as well.

Scholarship Internships

Instead of unpaid internships, interns can work somewhere and receive scholarship(s) in return for their hard work for the duration of their time as an intern. It could either be a fixed amount agreed upon at the start or an amount rewarded at the end where the longer the intern worked somewhere the more they would get in scholarship.

Turn Internships Into Partnerships

Productive interns should either be given a paid position equal to the amount of intern hours that they dedicated to the agency or given the first opportunity at available positions within the agency. If neither is an option, their internship could be paid towards their college/university in which they are attending to help finance their expenses.

government sponsored internship

It does not make sense for the company to educate people they might not hire, but it benefits society. thus, it would be best for the government to subsidize the wages of interns.

Room and Board

Keep it simple. Employers provide dorm like residences and a daily allowance for food and drinks. Just like students living on campus, an intern would be assigned a dorm room and a meal card that can be used only at specific restaurants.

Employers want EXPERIENCE

As a university student myself, I cannot stress enough the importance of experience in the work force. I think there should be a time limit on unpaid internships with the promise of paid work OR a solid reference letter after a certain amount of hours put in to that company. This way if the internship doesn’t work out, other employers will know of your dedication and work ethic, but if it does, then you have a contract job.

Pay for what is worked, not for time spent!

The internship experience is for the benefit of the intern. The intern does not displace regular employees, but works under close supervision of existing staff. Unless they are taking the staff’s place, interns should continue as just a shadow. If the intern does take place of the employee, then they should be compensated. Employer does not typically gain, if anything production may slow down to teach.

Personally I believe that unpaid internships should be illegal.

As with any career, it is illegal for the company of employment to not pay there staff while training them. I believe that the Union of students should talk to the board that deals with the pay of the interns and they should either go on strike to petition the fact that they aren’t being paid. Or go to the state. Regardless it is unfair, and un just.

People should be paid if they are working

In an internship people need to be able to get paid so that they can be able to want to learn more about the work they are volunteering as an intern. People should get paid if they are actually doing some type of work even if it is interning at a business.

Colleges should reduce course cost for required internships

Internship courses are usually 3 credits, since the student is spending most of their time completing the internship, the college should not charge students for the full course or should reduce the course credits to 1 credit. The student saves money and the college only pays a teacher for a 1 credit course. This change would result in upfront cost savings to the student, which would help cover internship costs.

Oppression to Opportunities

Offer the opportunity to advance towards a position within the company if available. If there’s no room for advancement, ensure interns have real work experience and critical thinking skills to allow them to flourish at other companies. Keep schedules flexible so that interns can balance work and other life demands. Offer subsidization or access to grants to offset living costs.

THE INITIATION OF LAW OF CONTRACT

Here is my submission
All agreements are not contracts and all contracts are agreements. A contract creates reciprocal obligations between the parties. Nevertheless, between an intern and a company there should be a endorsement by both parties whether the adventure by the intern is to benefit him or her financially or whether it is to foster the development of one’s life through the skills acquired. It will end the problem.

Learn job appreciation through grunt work

Often we can’t perform professional tasks without a certain level of aptitude and are left watching. We can observe the professionals half the time and enthusiastically do the boring work that allows them to do their job the other half; clean and organize. Interns will appreciate their career choice after doing grunt work that’s necessary for the company to function.
